The 16 5/8 Makita circular saw definitely takes the danger factor out of cutting thick beams. Face the facts; older style monster saws of this type are downright scary! For clean, precision chip free cuts, Makita has two plunge saws in their lineup and they're both 6 ¼ inches. One comes with a mammoth 55" guide rail, and the smaller model has a standard sized deluxe style table. They're both also packed with wizz-bang features like multi operational blade speed control for both setting and maintaining blade speed.

The 5680-01 SKILSAW has a 14-amp, 2.5-horsepower motor that supplies ample strength for ripping through all varieties of wood, while the 7-1/4-inch 24-tooth carbide blade provides the cutting capacity to tackle a variety of projects, including building decks, fencing, sheds, or wooden furniture. The 5680-01 is also 1/2 of a pound lighter and 15% faster than its predecessor (5750-01), reducing user fatigue while increasing efficiency. The 5680-01 SKILSAW possesses many innovative safety features including a patented Anti Snag lower guard, which reduces hang-ups in materials when making narrow cutoffs.
